About Students 4 Peace
Students 4 Peace (S4P) is a non-profit, Boston-based organization that promotes peace and co-existence, environment and health issues and activism. Through cultural and social events, sport events, dialogue events, student organizations network and the S4P website and newsroom, S4P's goal is to improve our society and world by working together and reaching a cleaner, safer and more accepting global community.
Although 'Peace' has such a strong political connection we do not focus on politics but rather on the human people-to-people aspect of peace. Keeping in mind what happens after a peace agreement is signed or when people live in the same community but have feelings of hate we wish to work on human side of Peace. We feel that the environment and global health and poverty concerns are also an integral part of that meaning.
Our main thrust is to bring diverse students together in an interpersonal and non-confrontational way. With cultural, regional events, we seek to bring together students who might otherwise encounter each other only in political settings or not at all. The students who participate in the events come from different backgrounds, some of which have traditionally been in political conflict with one another. We believe that by experiencing other people's cultures and by communicating in a non-threatening atmosphere, we can eventually achieve co-existence and ultimately, peace.
There are many students and groups at work on the campus level. As a network organization we seek to unite these individual student groups and create a community on the regional scale. Through the network and e-calendar, students learn about the other events and activists in the area. This will enable various organizations to invite each other and work together to create larger, more effective events that will consequently reach more students and make better use of resources.
The S4P website is still in progress. Here you will find news and events of the groups within the alliance and beyond with articles and an e-calendar. S4P aims to showcase peace work done by individuals and organizations around the world; especially in regions of conflict in which positive news rarely gets coverage in the media.
With hate and xenophobia increasing throughout the world, now is the time to take a stand and raise our voices for peace. Our commitment is to create a more accepting, respectful and understanding community, locally and globally.
