Encounter Point

“Encounter Point” is not a typical movie about Palestinians and Israelis. The co-directors, Ronit Avni and Julia Bacha, do not focus on checkpoints or suicide bombers. The film does not try to decide what is right or wrong. It does not even seem to cater to either Jews or Arabs. What it does do is make one thing clear: many people exist on both sides that want to get to know each other.

World AIDS Day has been observed on Dec. 1 each year since 1988, and is dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection. Despite recent, improved access to antiretroviral treatment and care in many regions of the world, the AIDS pandemic claimed an estimated 3.1 million lives last year, of which more than half a million were children. The number of people with HIV/AIDS in Massachusetts has increased every year of the epidemic’s 25 year history. Over the last seven years, the number of infected people in the state has risen at an alarming 30 percent rate.
